Oaxacon Wood Animals

5th graders created these AMAZING "wood" animals. These were made using model magic. Students were inspired by the wood carvers of Oaxacon. We spent a lot of time viewing different animals and the students drew their animals and used markers to create patterns. We then created animals out of model magic and painted patterns using tempera paint.

This student had a great idea to display her horse on a piece of wood like a trophy. This idea caught on like wild fire! I might be making a wood shop stop for more wood scrap!

students used their drawings as their placemats.  Here you can see some of this students designs.  This bunny is still a work in progress =)
