Winter Birch Trees

5th Grade students studied the writer Robert Frost and his poem Birch Trees to create these winter birches. They also studied the illustrator Ed Young and his variations on the winter birch. 5th graders used brown tempera paint and a small piece of tag board and spread the paint on one side to create the trunk of the tree. Then they used a paint brush to add the details to the trunk and snow on the branches. To create the snow fall, students used corn and rolled white tempera paint on top of the trees. To see more birch trees and more art work check out my flickr page!
